When will the UK economy return to normal?

There is no doubt that the next few months will be very tricky for the UK economy and there's also no doubt that many people are starting to become very concerned. In the midst of what has been one of the worst economic downturns in living history it is difficult to comprehend how and when the UK economy will return to normal. We have seen the banks bailed out by UK taxpayers, we have seen many retail outlets fall by the wayside and the mortgage markets is still a no go area for first-time buyers.

While many of us complained about the boom and the bust times in the traditional economic cycle, what would we all give for a return to these more predictable times?

Only a few months ago many of the optimists had been suggesting that the UK economy was over the worst and indeed we would be back to the more traditional economic cycle in no time at all. However, there is growing concern throughout Europe regarding public-sector spending, sovereign debt and only this week we saw the Irish government become the latest "victim" of rumour and counter rumour in the money markets regarding a potential international bailout.
