Was HBOS whistleblower sacked by Sir James Crosby?
While the Treasury select committee's ongoing grilling of the so-called "Masters of the universe" continues there has been a stunning revelation today regarding HBOS and Sir James Crosby. It has been suggested that Paul Moore, who worked for HBOS, was sacked after warning the directors (headed by Sir James Crosby) that the company was headed for trouble. His suggestion that the company was growing too quickly is alleged to have led to him being made redundant on the advice of Sir James Crosby.
While normally this would not necessarily registered very highly on the interest scale , Sir James Crosby is the deputy chairman of the FSA. In order to "save any embarrassment for Gordon Brown" Sir James Crosby has this evening fallen on his sword and resigned his position with the FSA. The allegations by Mr Moore are unproven but such a serious danger as to lead to the immediate resignation of the FSA's deputy chairman.
While Gordon Brown has been fairly quick to condemn the alleged comments and actions of Sir James Crosby, he also offered a crumb of support with suggestions that the accusations were unproven. This is a bitter blow to Gordon Brown and his ongoing rescue package for the UK financial sector.
