Scotland Set To Build World's Largest Onshore Wind Farm
As all countries within the EU move to source 31% of their energy needs from renewable energy by 2020, Scotland has taken a massive leap in this direction with plans for the world's largest onshore wind farm in south Lanarkshire. The move will easily dwarf other ventures being planned throughout Europe and the one which is being built just outside of Glasgow.
Once completed the venture will be able to produce power for 320,000 homes and should result in a significant drop in energy bills in the region. On a more commercial note the venture is expected to bring over £600 million of investment to the local area and create in excess of 200 full time jobs, not to mention those involved in the building side of the project.
Renewable energy is and always will be something of a controversial subject, with wind farms often catching most of the bad press and resistance. While there is no hiding the fact that they can and do have the ability to spoil a beautiful landscape, there is a need to harness the natural energy resources around the UK. The fact this one venture will be able to supply power to over 320,000 homes is something which has impressed even the more cautious members of the public.
