Property portals' popularity grows
More homebuyers than ever before are searching for potential properties over the internet, with property portal popularity particularly high among the younger generation, new research has shown.According to Halifax Estate Agency, overall ten per cent of people looked for the home they now own on the world wide web and a further 29 per cent said they intend to use the internet to search for a property when they next move.Among 18 to 24 year olds the number of homeowners who found their current property online soars to 43 per cent. Whereas only one per cent of over 65s found their present home as a result of searching the web, although eight per cent said that they would search online when they next move. Londoners in particular were likely to have found their current residence as a result of searching the web, with 23 per cent of homeowners in the capital saying they had done this. Some 44 per cent of Londoners said they would visit a property portal for their next purchase.Commenting on the findings, Colin Kemp, managing director for Halifax Estate Agents, said: "Finding a new property on the internet has certainly increased in popularity with the ease of searching from your own home and the ability to search thousands of properties at a click of a button revolutionising the process."
