UK population receive 420,000 scam e-mails each hour
A report today has cast further light on the problems facing many UK Internet users with the revelation that 420,000 scam emails are received each and every hour in the UK. One person will become the victim of these scams every 7 seconds with the average scam costing £285 per person. For those who believe this is not a major issue, think again!
A massive 3.7 billion scam e-mails were sent to people in the UK over the last 12 months with financial information and financial offers by far and away the most popular subject matter amongst fraudsters. While historically, despite warnings, many people continue to fall victim to the scams the situation is made worse by the ongoing economic difficulties with people desperate to try to make ends meet. This is the perfect environment for fraudsters to operate in and the fact that many people are too embarrassed to go to the police in the event of losing money is also another factor which has been very prominent.
We all need to be more vigilant, we all need to be careful and above all if we are the victim of scams and frauds then we need to inform the authorities so that future potential victims can be protected.
