Concern over UK's biggest wind farm development
The UK's biggest wind farm development, off the coast of Kent, will be unveiled today although it has been revealed that just 20% of the £900 million expenditure on the project has gone to UK companies. Despite the fact that UK consumers will foot the bill for this new green technology in the years to come only a fraction of the investment in the project has been awarded to UK companies.
This will be a major embarrassment to the UK authorities who have been pushing the UK Green sector as a potentially enormous investment arena and employment sector for the future. However, the vast majority of expenditure on this particular project has been directed towards Belgium and Danish companies even though one of the partners in the project recently closed its only UK blade manufacturing facility in the UK.
There is no doubt the introduction of this massive wind farm, which is only the start of a large green investment program, will make a major difference to UK renewable energy in the future but there will need to be more investment in UK companies. UK taxpayers will not be willing to sit aside while major projects are farmed off overseas yet again.
