Vince Cable attacks Sir Philip Green
Vince Cable, the business secretary for the UK government, has this evening issued an attack on Topshop entrepreneur Sir Philip Green claiming that he should "pay his taxes in the UK". Those who have been following the UK government of late will be well aware that Sir Philip Green has been appointed as an adviser for David Cameron to try and clean up public-sector spending and reduce the public sector budget. However, his tax affairs have been under scrutiny on numerous occasions because of the tax situation for himself and his wife and the fact his wife is based in Monaco.
While there is no doubt that Vince Cable obviously has a point to prove against Sir Philip Green, confirmed by his various outbursts in the past, the truth is that the arrangements of the Topshop businessman are perfectly legal and wholly aboveboard. The fact that the couple between them have potentially saved hundreds of millions of pounds of tax due to their individual situations and their living arrangements is neither here nor there.
If Vince Cable really believes that there is an issue regarding Sir Philip Green's tax affairs then he needs to be specific otherwise now it's time to let this issue drop. Under the current UK tax legislation everything which Sir Philip Green and his family do is perfectly legal.
