Should immigrants be given tax breaks to stay in the UK?

A report by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has started a furious debate about immigrants in UK and how they should be treated. The report by the IPPR suggests that well educated, young immigrants should be given tax breaks in UK to encourage them to stay and contribute to the UK economy of the future. However, as you might have guessed this has caused significant concern across the UK population.

While there is no doubt that the UK will "lose" a significant number of immigrants over the next few years with many likely to relocate to the likes of China and India, where the economic situation is much better, should the government be giving them tax breaks to stay in the UK?

The obvious question to be asked is, if there are funds for tax breaks for immigrants entering the UK why can't these funds be used to educate existing UK workers to take on different roles?

The report by the IPPR comes on the back of a recent survey from the same Institute which suggested that immigrants should be given priority over housing stock in UK - something which attracted accusations that the institute is really a political vehicle. This would appear to be a debate which will go on and on for some time.
