Royal Mail chief executive second highest paid boss in public sector

It has been revealed that Adam Crozier, the chief executive of Royal Mail, was paid almost £1 million last year making him the second highest paid public sector boss. Mr Crozier's £633,000 salary was complemented by a £139,000 bonus, £17,000 in benefits together with a £206,000 cash supplement in place of a pension payment. While the Royal Mail is arguing that Adam Crozier's remuneration was lower than the year before there are still concerns that yet again public sector figures appear to be benefiting at the cost of others.

Even though this week possibly holds the greatest chance of an agreement between the two parties to avert any more strikes there are still concerns about the long-term damage being done to the business and the potential for further redundancies. The stance of the Communication Workers Union appears to have softened over the last few days with many believing the union leaders have realised the potential long-term harm to the business.

However, a resolution in the short to medium term is not guaranteed and if nothing can be agreed this week then we will see further industrial action on Friday and Monday. This would take in around 120,000 Royal Mail workers and literally bring the system to a standstill.
