Gordon Brown performs U-turn on childcare vouchers

Gordon Brown has been forced into an embarrassing U-turn on his attempt to tax the middle class families of the UK and reduce their childcare voucher entitlements. After a significant Labour backbench revolt it is believed that middle-class families will be allowed to retain the £2400 year in tax benefits attached to the childcare voucher system. There had been plans to scrap any tax relief for those in the middle to higher income brackets but these have now evaporated.

While the UK government has attempted to overlook this particular U-turn it has been picked up by the popular press and is now one of a large and growing number of U-turns performed by Gordon Brown over the last few months. As we have mentioned on numerous occasions, Gordon Brown seems to take one step forward and two steps back with U-turn after U-turn after U-turn reducing his reputation and standing within his own party.

Even though the voting polls would suggest that Gordon Brown has made some headway against the Conservative party over the last few weeks, there are many who believe when the election is finally announced he could become more of a liability than ever before.
