If Alistair Darling got the economy wrong who can we trust?

The revelation that Alistair Darling, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has admitted that he "got it wrong" regarding the state of the UK economy may not have come as a surprise but does prompt a number of questions. If the UK government, with all the data available at its fingertips, is unable to predict the UK economy who can we trust?

Gordon Brown has been pouring billions upon billions of pounds of taxpayer's money into the system on the back of information which has now been proven to be incorrect. The situation is now critical for the UK economy as we need to know exactly what is happening, predictions for the future and how we can get ourselves out of this mess. For the government to put its hands up and admit faults at this stage of the game is concerning to say the least as massive bets have all been taken on a recovery in the UK economy in the short to medium term.

It was also evident that Gordon Brown was unable or unwilling to add any comment to Alistair Darling's admission, with many reporters suggesting Gordon Brown is not happy. He has constantly refused to accept any criticism for his part in the downfall of the UK economy and this strategy appears set to continue.
