Is Obama all mouth and no action?
Over the last few weeks we have seen a significant increase in the number of positive and hopeful headlines in the US with each and every member of the US government attempting to talk up the economy. The $1.1 trillion rescue package announced by the G20 has been repeated time and time again as has the $787 billion stimulus plan announced by President Obama some months ago. But are we seeing any sign of recovery in the US?
Interestingly, even the sceptics in the US have been impressed at the way President Obama has tackled the US economy and the US political system. This is a system which on numerous occasions has blocked a number of rescue packages because of political bias and political unrest. Quite how Obama has managed to tackle the political system in such a short space of time is impressive, with rumours that the US government is set to announce "it is ahead of schedule and under budget" with regards to the economic revival.
So far we have yet to see any solid evidence that the US economy has turned although, much like the UK, there are tentative signs that the speed of the recession is slowing down and could possibly turnaround over the next few months.
