Is the postal strike coming to an end?

It seems as though the UK government and the Royal Mail management have the upper hand in the postal strike with the news that around 25% of postal workers are expected to "cross the picket lines" this Friday, which is the next scheduled day of industrial action. So what is going on?

It seems that the Royal Mail management has been successful with an advertising campaign encouraging staff to return to work for the good of the company and themselves in the short, medium and longer term. It is also believed that public support for the postal union has fallen dramatically over the last few days perhaps due to the fact the unions have been threatening increased strike action between now and Christmas.

If, as expected, a significant number of postal workers do cross the picket lines later this week it is highly likely that we will see the unions try to save face and agree to further discussions with the Royal Mail management. Quite why support for the strike has fallen so dramatically is open to debate but with the economy still under pressure it would appear that this particular bout of industrial action is a step too far for many people.
