Waste not, want not

Even though the above saying has been around for years, many people do not quite understand what it means and how it can save them money in the long run. There are many different interpretations of this particular saying but one which will save you literally hundreds of pounds a year is in relation to your food supplies!

It is common knowledge that UK consumers bin thousands of tons of out of date food each year, which is money literally down the drain. Next time you clear your fridge check out what produce has gone past its sell by date and how much money you are wasting. So how can you save yourself money in the short, medium and longer term?

There is a very simple solution to the problem of out of date food, all you need to do is push the old food to the front of the fridge and the fresh food to the back. So next time you get a yoghurt you will pick the one which is closest to its sell by date thereby reducing the amount of wastage you will experience on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. If you try this for just a few weeks you will start to notice the difference both in your fridge and in your pocket!
