Newlyweds in debt for 'Posh' ceremonies

As a result of attempting to get hitched in the style of celebrity couples such as Posh and Becks, newlyweds are finding it increasingly difficult to pay back debts once the honeymoon is over.According to research by The Debt Advisor the number of newlyweds who visit debt counsellors has doubled since last year with the average wedding costing £18,000.A fifth of these extravagant weddings are paid for using loans or credit cards, which has led to one in ten of newly married spouses admitting they can not afford repayments after the big day.Around 260,000 couples are expected to get married this year and if the fad for star-like weddings in castles continues, £4.6 billion could be spent on ceremonies collectively. Of these weddings, almost 49,000 will be funded through credit, taking up to ten years to pay it off.
