Is The Aviation Industry Going Green?

News that Rolls Royce and British Airways are joining forces to try and put together a greener fuel for the airline industry has been well received by environmentalists around the world. The joint venture will see third parties asked to come forward with alternatives to traditional aviation fuel, with the chance that the winner could literally change the course of the airline industry, as well as play a major part in reducing the industry's impact upon the environment.

However, is this really a scheme to reduce global warming or just a clever marketing ploy aimed at taking away the industry's reliance upon oil?

There is on doubt that the aviation industry is one which has suffered more than most over the last decade with taxes rising, fuel prices rising and customer numbers starting to retreat. This has left many airlines on the brink of financial catastrophe and pushed airlines such as British Airways into the move announced today.

Whether a clever marketing trick or a real attempt to reduce global warming, the move will be well received by a number of prominent parties and governments. It may also prompt others in the industry to speed up their search for an alternative fuel, with the potential for a win win situation for all parties involved.
