Another claims management company is censored by the ASA
The Advertising Standards Authority has this big wrapped the knuckles of another claims management company which had invited people to contact them to "Legally clear your credit card and loans". This is a subject we covered only a couple of weeks ago in relation to other companies which had appeared to offer a risk-free route to writing off debts.
Indeed the Advertising Standards Authority censored the company involved, UK Logical of Yorkshire, because it appeared to give the impression that 80% of those who contacted them were able to successfully write off their debt, although there was no evidence available at the time to back this up. The subject of a £50 administration charge was another factor which led to the censorship because ultimately this was not made clear in the advert.
The fact is that people in a desperate situation were being offered, or potentially offered, the opportunity to write off their debts, although they would have to pay a £50 administration charge, with no guarantee of success. As we covered recently, the whole basis of this particular sector of the market relates to consumer laws which were changed some years ago and which some believe offers the opportunity to write off certain debts of individuals in the UK. Many people disagree with this particular understanding of the consumer laws and ultimately it has not been challenged in the courts.
