Sainsbury's makes a play for the UK credit card market
As the ongoing expansion of Sainsbury's continues, after a difficult few years, the company has announced a new deal on its own credit card. Those who use the Sainsbury's credit card will receive double Nectar points in-store, online and in petrol stations for two years. The company hopes that the offer will see a significant increase in the 500,000 people already signed up for its credit card and instil further customer loyalty.
It is interesting to see that Sainsbury's has also announced a 0% balance transfer deal which will last 12 months and hopefully we will start to see the return of more credit card offers. There are very few 0% balance transfer deals on the market at the moment with many credit card companies concerned about growing debt problems. It is highly likely that we will see the likes of Tesco react in some form in the short-term as UK supermarkets look set to go head-to-head again for your custom.
If you're looking to take out a new credit card it is vital that you do so for the right reasons and do not become blinded by promotions and short-term offers. Different credit cards have different attractions and different elements which will help different circumstances - do your homework!
