CBI calls for greater use of waste in energy production
As we covered earlier this week, a number of households in the South of England joined up to a scheme which effectively recycles sewage from their area into energy. While this particular scheme is something of a pilot at the moment there is no doubt that other energy companies in UK are showing interest in what could be a significant growth market for the UK in the future. As a consequence, in order to reduce long-term energy costs, the CBI has called for greater use of waste in the production of energy in the UK.
We are starting to see the makings of a significant shift in the UK energy sector with Scotland likely to become the "green energy sector" of Europe and potentially produce a surplus of energy over the next 20 years. When you take into account the proposed changes in some areas of the UK, with greater use of waste material to produce energy, at worst energy prices should stabilise and at best they should fall.
However, the UK government may need to inject significant investment into this particular arena to make it viable in the short to medium term and give what could potentially be a major growth market for UK the chance to breathe.
