Prudential Chief Executive Under Pressure

New Ash Tax Announced For UK Travellers

There is anger today amongst UK travellers with news that British insurer Aviva will be adding £10 to the cost of travel insurance from 1 July in order to cover any costs associated with disruption caused by the ash cloud. The £10 additional cost relates to annual insurance cover for any individual although those booking single trip insurance will only be charged an additional £5.

Competition Commission Seeks To Increase PPI Availability

The Competition Commission has today issued a ruling on payment protection insurance (PPI) and its availability when acquiring personal loans, mortgages and credit cards. Initially there had been moves to ban PPI at the point-of-sale for the above financial instruments and allow customers to shop around for the best PPI option available. However, Barclays Bank took the issue to court and the Competition Commission was ordered to review its earlier findings.

Prudential Admits To Further Delays In AIG Acquisition

The reputation of the Prudential management is today in tatters with confirmation that planned stock market listings in Hong Kong and Singapore have been delayed due to concerns expressed by the Financial Services Authority [FSA] with regards to capital requirements for the enlarged group. Quinn Insurance Announces 900 Job Losses

The administrators for Quinn Insurance have today announced 900 job losses and confirmed that the Quinn Insurance is officially now up for sale. This is the next stage in a long-running saga involving parent group Quinn Group, which is owned by one of Ireland's wealthiest businessmen, Sean Quinn. The regulators became involved with regards to Quinn Insurance a few weeks ago and effectively closed the business due to a number of alleged irregularities.

AA Travel Insurance Backtracks On Volcanic Ash Promise

AA travel insurance, an offshoot of the well-known motoring operation, has today reneged on a promise to cover the costs of travellers caught up in the volcanic ash saga. Initially the company had promised to cover additional travel and hotel expenses for customers with AA travel insurance but this promise has been withdrawn after the company's insurance underwriters refused to pay out.
