Is Gordon Brown really the champion of the middle classes?

Gordon Brown has today reiterated his stance regarding the middle classes of the UK despite only days ago ridiculing David Cameron because of his "privileged background". Indeed Gordon Brown has spoken in detail about his own "privileged background" with many suggesting he is trying to align himself with those in middle England, who effectively won the election for the Labour Party last time.

This has the potential to cause great divides within the UK government with many traditional Labour MPs demanding that the government focuses upon those on lower incomes in the UK. However, after a recent attempt to overthrow Gordon Brown failed it is believed that Lord Mandelson, who is now the kingmaker in the Labour government, has taken over. In exchange for "saving Gordon's skin" it seems as though Lord Mandelson is now dictating election strategy.

Lord Mandelson is a person who has attracted controversial headlines in the past and indeed even after being ejected from government on two occasions he is back again. However, Peter Mandelson has many enemies within the Labour Party and there is a feeling that he is becoming too influential with some Labour MPs suggesting Gordon Brown is now "Peter Mandelson's puppet".
