Are you on the correct tax code?
Over the last few days it has become more and more apparent that HM Revenue and Customs is having major problems with personal taxation for the UK population. It was confirmed today that anywhere up to 100,000 people may inadvertently be paying the wrong tax because of a computer malfunction which has changed many tax codes in the UK. So are you on the correct tax code?
If we are brutally honest the chances are that many of us will never ever have checked our tax codes and many of us will be unclear as to where we can actually locate this code. We seem to take so much on face value from the authorities when recent events have shown that not all computer systems are infallible and many of us may well have been paying the wrong rate of tax for months if not years.
We all need to take control of our own personal finances and being aware of your tax code and your tax situation is just the start. Despite the investment of millions and millions of pounds into computer systems in various government departments it seems as though we are experiencing more and more problems which is actually costing people money.
