Gordon Brown's Big Give-Away we will all pay for
He stepped up to the centre stage, he smiled for cameras and then Gordon Brown attempted to blow away all the problems which he has encountered over the last 12 months, but he forgot one thing. He forgot to tell the consumer who would be paying for the £1 billion giveaway, he forgot the basic rules of economics.
Mr Brown told a packed press conference that over £910 million pounds of today's £1 billion energy saving package would be paid for by the energy companies themselves and the cost would not be passed onto the consumer. However, a considered remark from David Pointer, head of the Association of Electricity Producers, blew this claim wide open. He suggested that it was a simple case of economics that increased costs to the energy companies would be passed onto customers - so in effect we are going to see nearly £1 billion taken from our pockets over the next few years to pay for a gimmick from Gordon Brown. Pure magic!
The Conservative Party must be rubbing their hands with glee as they have not even had to open their mouths to see Gordon Brown shot down in flames... yet again.
