Tax cuts are all well and good but how would the Liberal Democrats fund them?
While the Liberal Democrats were very vocal in their questioning of why the UK population puts so much emphasis on property they have also been shouting about tax cuts from the hill tops. This is great to hear, and a move away from the Liberal Democrat policies of the past, but how will they fund this reduction in tax rates?
Yes, you have guessed it, the Liberal Democrats plan to tax the rich and subsidise the poor of the UK - or should that be 'Old Labour'?
Sound bites are all well and good but with the Liberal Democrats this is all that it is because the party is struggling to retain its position as the third power in UK politics with the likes of the Green Party coming up on the rails. Many economic observers feel that the new party leadership should be looking towards a long term change in policies not a reaction to events of today to catch the headlines.
When you consider that even the Conservatives are not willing to promise tax cuts if they return to office at the next election there must be a reason why. The reason as we have covered on so many occasions is the state of the public purse and the fact that it is not only empty, but it is in the red. That is the reason why the Liberal Democrats announcement will soon fade away, but if they really are looking to change they may be able to grab the position of 'Old Labour' before 'New Labour' transforms back into its original state.
