US heavyweights attempting to rush Congress

In a blatant attempt to ensure that Congress has no option but to pass the proposed US relief fund to buy up billions of dollars of 'bad assets' we have seen the likes of George Bush and Treasury heavyweight Henry Paulson fighting the fight through the media. The reported $700 billion package is being billed as the saviour of the US economy but there are concerns that Congress will drag its feet.

There have also been reports that opposition parties will also use the vote on the package to ensure other policies, which they have been pursuing for some time, will be passed. It seems as though votes are literally 'up for sale' in the US and the bartering will go on for some days yet. But will the bill and the rescue package go through?

While some are calling the rescue brave, others crazy and some are as yet undecided it seems that it will go through in some shape or form. The US economy was crashing before the move was announced and to renege on the reported deal now would be political suicide for all parties involved. We may see some tinkering, we may see some headline grabbing comments but it will go through, make no mistake about that.
