Is Gordon Brown backing tax breaks for marriages?
Despite the fact that the Labour Party has for two years been attacking David Cameron's plans to introduce tax friendly breaks for marriages yesterday saw something of a u-turn by Gordon Brown when he seemed to confirm that the UK government introduced the ability to transfer inheritance tax allowances between spouses to encourage marriage. This goes against what the government has been saying for the last two years and many believe it is simply an attempt to muddy the water ahead of the next general election.
David Cameron has been a strong supporter of marriage for many years and this has placed him at odds with the Labour Party at a time when many people are concerned about the breakdown of society. Each and every day seems to see the UK government backtracking on certain issues to try and grab the attention of the media and UK voters. This is certainly confusing UK voters, many of whom are not sure exactly what Gordon Brown and the Labour Party stand for at this moment in time.
To be fair, the Conservative party has also backtracked on a number of issues over the last few weeks as the election nears and more people are now looking to confirm and clarify their voting intentions for the future.
